Modern Warfare 4 Release Date and Platforms
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases worldwide on Friday, 23 October 2026. Activision confirmed the date at the announcement and has kept it consistent across its official pages since.
The game launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. On PC, it is available through Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox on PC. Two platform points stand out. It does not come to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, so this is a current-generation-only release. It also marks Call of Duty's return to a Nintendo system, with the Switch 2 version arriving on day one alongside the others.
What is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 About
The next Modern Warfare pushes the series into darker territory. The campaign is set against a full-scale invasion of the Korean Peninsula, following Private Park, a young South Korean soldier facing live combat for the first time as a routine patrol collapses into all-out war.
Running alongside that, the returning Captain Price wages a personal, off-book mission from the shadows while staying ahead of those hunting him. As Price's path collides with the forces behind the invasion, the conflict spreads beyond anyone's control. Activision has described it as bringing long-running Modern Warfare storylines to an emotional breaking point, grounded in the military authenticity the series is known for.
Editions and Pre-Order Details
Modern Warfare 4 is available to pre-order now across all platforms. Pre-ordering a digital edition secures Campaign Early Access, letting you start the campaign on 16 October 2026, a week before the full launch. Pre-order rewards also include Open Beta early access and an Operator skin, and the Open Beta has already run ahead of release.
One point worth knowing for Xbox players: unlike some recent Xbox titles, Modern Warfare 4 is not a day-one Xbox Game Pass release. It is a paid game on every platform, so you buy it rather than access it through a subscription. Multiple editions are offered, with higher tiers adding extra in-game content, so it is worth checking what each includes before you pre-order.
How to Buy Modern Warfare 4 on PS5, Xbox and PC
Since Modern Warfare 4 is a paid release on every platform, the simplest way to buy it digitally is to top up your account and purchase it directly. On PS5, a PlayStation Store gift card adds funds to your account to pre-order or buy the game at launch. On Xbox Series X|S, an Xbox gift card does the same on your Microsoft account. You can also put the balance toward in-game content with Call of Duty game credit once you are playing. PC players can buy the game through Steam, Battle.net, or Xbox on PC, and Switch 2 players can buy it through the Nintendo eShop.
Choose the card that matches your account's region so the balance applies correctly. Each card is delivered digitally, so once your purchase is complete, the code is ready to use straight away.
