Tokyo Game Show 2026: Biggest Announcements and Games Revealed

Tokyo Game Show 2026: What Happened

Tokyo Game Show 2026 ran at Makuhari Messe in Chiba and celebrated the show's 30th anniversary. It was scheduled as the event's first ever five day run, from 17 to 21 September, but the final day was canceled as Typhoon Dujuan approached Japan, cutting the show to four days.

Even shortened, it was a record edition, with hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of booths spanning the biggest global publishers, veteran Japanese studios, and a deep roster of independent developers. Between the Xbox broadcast, the Capcom Spotlight, and the packed show floor, the four days produced a steady run of trailers, release dates, and first-time playable demos.

Biggest Game Announcements and Reveals

The show leaned heavily on Japan's biggest franchises, with several standout reveals.

Square Enix built its lineup around its flagship series, headlined by the first globally playable demo of Final Fantasy VII Revelation on Switch 2, alongside Kingdom Hearts IV, the Kingdom Hearts I-III Collection, and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World.

Capcom brought a heavy slate to its Spotlight, spanning Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Dragon's Dogma, Street Fighter, and Mega Man, with first-time Japanese playable demos for titles including Mega Man: Dual Override and Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Atlus revealed a new character for Persona 4 Revival, one of the most anticipated JRPG remakes on the horizon. Koei Tecmo treated Attack on Titan as a marquee draw, dated for 10 December 2026, and showed new gameplay for Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember.

Bandai Namco used the show to spotlight Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, which was playable throughout the event and is dated for 2 October 2026. Xbox's broadcast also added a campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, a new Crazy Taxi trailer showcasing its Japanese map, and Once Human's Isles of Abyss expansion, launching on 22 October 2026 on Xbox and Game Pass.

Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT and OD Updates

The show's biggest talking point came right at the end of the Xbox broadcast. Just as the presentation seemed to wrap, Hideo Kojima appeared to share fresh updates on his two projects, OD - KNOCK and PHYSINT.

The headline was the casting reveal for PHYSINT, Kojima's action-espionage game. Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård was announced in the lead role, shown on a new poster alongside Charlee Fraser. It was the kind of surprise moment Kojima is known for, and it became TGS 2026's most widely shared reveal, capping off a strong showing for the event.
