Want to know which are the strongest heroes in AFK Journey right now? You’re at the right place! We have ranked all the heroes in this AFK Journey tier list across every game mode. Things can get quite rough when you need to build several heroes for each game mode but have limited resources. Check out which are the best AFK Journey heroes as of the current meta and invest your resources accordingly.
What Each Tier Means in this AFK Journey Tier List?

Every hero gets one overall grade. That grade averages four modes: AFK Stages, Dream Realm, Dream Realm Endless, and PvP. A hero who dominates one mode but flops in two others will land lower than you might expect. That is why the mode table further down matters as much as the main list.
| Tier | What It Means |
| SS | Top value in nearly every mode. Build them the moment you own them. |
| S | Excellent picks that stay useful all season. |
| A+ | Strong heroes that shine with the right team or in specific modes. |
| A | Reliable core members, and some are mode specialists. |
| B+ | Good fillers and niche answers for certain bosses or Arena teams. |
| B | Situational. Fine to use, but rarely worth heavy investment. |
| C | Outclassed in current content. Bench them once you have better options. |

The Best Heroes to Use in AFK Journey
Contess
Contess holds the top spot because she wins the modes with the best rewards. She is one of the strongest boss hitters in Dream Realm and stays near the top in Endless. She also anchors many of the best Arena teams.
Her weak point is campaign progress. She sits far down the order for pushing AFK Stages at a power deficit. She also belongs to the Celestial and Hypogean group, so she needs far more copies than a normal hero. Build her if boss rankings and Arena matter more to you than clearing stages.

Rolan
Rolan joined in Version 1.7.3 as a Celestial support, and he barely deals damage himself. His value comes from Morale, a team resource that starts every fight at 20%. Morale rises when allies use Ultimates or defeat enemies, and it drops when an ally falls.
Every chunk of Morale raises team ATK. At 60%, his blade starts damaging and stunning enemies. At full Morale, his ward creates a clone that recasts each ally’s Ultimate. That last effect only unlocks at Mythic+, so a low-copy Rolan plays like a decent healer. If Rolan dies, the team loses all Morale and every buff with it.

Frieren
Frieren arrived through the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End crossover as a Dimensional mage. She does her best work in Dream Realm Endless, where steady total damage decides the leaderboard. Her normal Dream Realm output is excellent too.
Opinions split on her PvP value, and she is only average for pushing AFK Stages. The bigger issue is access. Dimensional heroes come from limited collab banners, and extra copies get much harder to find after the banner ends. Pull for her only when a rerun is live, and you can commit.

Gunnar
Gunnar is the most consistent name on this AFK Journey tier list. He ranks at or near the top for AFK Stages, Dream Realm, and Endless, and slips only slightly in PvP. Few heroes carry that kind of value across every mode.
The catch is cost. He sits in the Celestial and Hypogean pool, so reaching his higher ascension tiers takes a serious stockpile. Spenders get the most from him. Free players can still use him well, but expect slower progress.

Elijah & Lailah
The Celestial twins remain the safest support investment in the game. They heal, buff the team, and help with energy, which fits almost any lineup you build. Their value holds steady in campaign and Dream Realm alike.
They are less dominant in Arena, where faster control teams can punish them early. Even so, if you own them, they belong in your main team. Many players rate them as the first Celestial to finish after Rolan.

Himmel
Himmel came in the same crossover as Frieren and shares her Dimensional label. He is a strong pick for Dream Realm and Endless, where his kit keeps adding value in long fights. He is weaker for stage pushing and middling in PvP.
Himmel is also kinder to free players than many top names. He pairs naturally with Frieren, so grabbing both from one collab run gives you a strong boss core.

Taichi & Agumon
Taichi & Agumon arrived with the Digimon Adventure crossover and went straight into S tier. They hit hard in Dream Realm and fit a wide range of teams. Their partner pair, Yamato & Gabumon, sits a little lower in A tier. Like other crossover heroes, both depend on limited banners, so plan your Invite Letters before a rerun.

New Heroes This Season: Senea, Aster, Karma and Eryndor
New releases always need a few weeks before rankings settle. Treat these early grades as a starting point rather than a final verdict.
Senea and Aster
Senea is a Graveborn hero who was once a famous singer of the Lightbearer Empire. Aster is a Hypogean, described as the very first of his kind. Both debuted with Veil of Memories, and both landed straight in the S tier.
Aster comes with the usual Hypogean warning. He needs many more copies than a four-faction hero, so commit fully or skip him. Senea is the easier investment of the two. Thane and Estrilda have also been named for this season, but they were not playable when this list was updated.

Karma and Eryndor
Karma is a Graveborn hero formed by twin brothers sharing one body. His rate-up runs until 7 October 2026, and he starts in the B tier. Most players can safely skip this banner.
Eryndor arrived in Version 1.7.4 and sits in A tier overall. He is far more useful in PvP than in boss modes. Pull him only if Arena is where you spend most of your time.

Mehira
We give her an A+ rank overall, yet she is a top pick for pushing AFK Stages and for Endless. Her damage style suits Endless, where HP loss and percentage effects matter more than raw stats. She struggles in the regular Dream Realm, and that one weakness costs her a higher grade.

Alna
She sits in the A tier, but she is among the best heroes for AFK Stages and PvP. She falls apart in both boss modes, which pulls her average down hard. If Arena is your main goal, treat her as a top priority.

Best AFK Journey Heroes by Game Mode
Each mode in AFK Journey rewards something different. AFK Stages favour crowd control and a stable frontline. Dream Realm rewards single-target damage and debuffs. Endless has a boss that cannot die, so HP loss and true damage take over. PvP comes down to who controls the opening seconds.
This table shows how much a single hero's value can swing between different modes:
| Hero | AFK Stages | Dream Realm | Endless | PvP |
| Rolan | Best | Great | Great | Great |
| Gunnar | Best | Best | Best | Great |
| Contess | Weak | Best | Best | Best |
| Saida | Best | Great | Good | Best |
| Frieren | Niche | Great | Best | Good |
| Himmel | Niche | Great | Great | Good |
| Elijah & Lailah | Great | Great | Good | Good |
| Mehira | Best | Weak | Best | Great |
| Alna | Best | Weak | Weak | Best |
How to Build the Best AFK Journey Teams?
Free players should focus on fewer heroes and finish them. Spreading resources across ten names leaves you with no team strong enough to push anything. Follow the order below to get the most out of every Invite Letter, and Acorn.
Step 1: Lock In a Frontline and a Support
Your first two investments should keep the team alive, not deal damage. Check the following:
- Frontline First: A strong carry with nothing in front of them dies in the opening seconds. Build the sturdiest frontline hero you own before any damage dealer.
- Support Next: A good support decides how long everyone else stays standing. Elijah & Lailah, Rolan and Solise are the best options if you have them.
- Damage Comes Last: Once the team survives, add a main carry. Your damage dealer now has room to scale instead of dying early.
Step 2: Build Around One Faction
Pick a faction where you already own three or four heroes. The faction bonus applies to the whole team, so it often matters more than one strong name.
| Heroes From One Faction | Team Bonus |
| 3 heroes | +10% ATK and HP |
| 5 heroes | +22% ATK and HP |
Celestial and Hypogean heroes count as any faction. That means they slot into every formation without breaking your bonus.
Step 3: Finish One Celestial or Hypogean at a Time
Celestials and Hypogeans cannot use Acorns to ascend. They also need far more copies than four-faction heroes. Take one to Mythic+ before you move to the next. Most players follow this order:
| Priority | Hero | Why Build Them |
| 1 | Rolan | Buffs the whole team through Morale and works in every mode |
| 2 | Elijah & Lailah | The safest support pick for campaign and Dream Realm |
| 3 | Contess | Top boss damage and a strong Arena anchor |
Step 4: Do Not Bench Your Mid-Tier Heroes
A tier letter is not the whole story. Keep these points in mind before you swap a hero out:
- Investment Beats Rank: A fully built A-tier hero often beats an SS hero you barely invested in.
- Mode Specialists Still Matter: Mehira and Alna sit lower overall, yet both are top picks for AFK Stages. Keep them if stage pushing is your focus.
- Team Setup Decides Fights: Formation, faction bonus, and Magic Charms win more fights than any letter on this AFK Journey tier list.

Contess, Rolan, Frieren, and Gunnar share the top tier. Gunnar is the most consistent across every mode, while Contess leads for bosses and Arena.
2. Which hero should I build first in AFK Journey?
Build a frontline hero and a support first. Then focus on one faction to unlock the team bonus before adding a main damage dealer.
3. Is Cecia still good in AFK Journey?
Cecia is still a solid early carry for new accounts. She falls to B tier in later content, so replace her once stronger damage dealers arrive.
4. Are Celestial and Hypogean heroes worth pulling?
Yes, if you commit to one at a time. They fit any faction team, but they need many copies and cannot use Acorns.
5. Is Karma worth pulling in AFK Journey?
