What you cannot do is move the game after redemption. Once a code is redeemed, the license is fixed to that Microsoft account for good and cannot be transferred, so never redeem a code you intend to give away.

If you already own Minecraft and only want spending currency for the Marketplace, that is Minecoins, which is a different item.

What if my code will not redeem?

First, check the code. It is 25 characters, and it is easy to mix up a zero and the letter O, or a one and the letter I, so enter it carefully or copy and paste it. Make sure you are signed in to the Microsoft account you want to own the game, since the game locks to whichever account is signed in. If the site says the code is already redeemed, it has been entered on a different Microsoft account, so check any other accounts you may have been signed in to.
