Can I redeem it on a browser, or only on my Switch?

Both. You can enter the code straight on your Switch through the eShop, or redeem it in a web browser at Nintendo's redemption page if your console is not to hand. There is one catch with the browser route: it only works once your account has opened the eShop on a Switch at least once. So a brand-new account should redeem on the console the first time, after which the web option is open for future codes.

If your account is set to another country, though, the code will not redeem, and you should not change region to make it fit while you hold a balance.
